Convenient Sources of Fruits for Cockatoos

Dehydrated fruits and vegetables are great when fresh fruits and vegetables aren’t available. Many birds enjoy the crunchiness of them, or they throw them into their water dish (creating a kind of “soup”) and eat them once they have rehydrated. Plan on changing the water more often during the day.

Dried fruits and vegetables have the benefit of not going bad. You might actually lock them up for days in their cages (unless they get wet, of course). This is useful while traveling. Dried fruits and vegetables can also help “crop junkies” make the switch to a healthy diet. You can rehydrate dried fruits and vegetables at home by moistening them with warm water.

Warm fruits and vegetables are particularly appealing to birds. Because they recall being chicks and like to fed warm regurgitated food by their bird parents.

It’s worth noting that some companies use artificial colouring. They do it to make their dried fruits and vegetables look more attractive. Buy dried fruits that are free of sulfur dioxide. This preservative has linked to hyperactivity, aggression, feather shredding, and allergy picking.
